The Gulf Soon To Be a Dead Zone?

It is now 30 days since the oil rig blew up in the Gulf of Mexico and began spewing oil in the thousands of barrels per day and BP is no nearer to plugging the leak.  It will be many days before there is any hope at all that the oil can be shut off--by plugging or diversion.  Besides the spread of oil to the east coast of Florida, east coast of Mexico, and who knows where else, the real danger lies in oil settling to the bottom and creating a dead zone where no life at all can exist.  Economically that would be a disaster but the real disaster will be to the many species that now exist in the rich habitat of the Gulf.  The extent of the disaster is just beginning to dawn on scientists, economists, politicians, and habitants of the Gulf.

Oil is known to be a carcinogen and toxic to life in general. Soon the oil slick will cover the entire waters of the gulf and extending past the Florida Keys and elsewhere who knows where?  It will extend past what is considered a local area of the Gulf to adjacent areas poisoning life as it goes.  It seems "drill baby drill" isn't as "catchy" as it was 31 days ago.
