Health Care No Health Care?

The Dems are saying the existing Health Care Bill is better than the status quo. That is not so. The present Health Care Bill has one major weak link and that is the Insurance Companies can raise premiums on the insurance beyond what is affordable, thus excluding those with health problems or other risks to profits. The insurance recipient is caught between a rock and a hard place in that he or she is mandated to buy insurance yet is faced with high premiums beyond what they will be able to afford. The only way out of this dilemma is a public option or a bill which sets premium prices that allow for profits on the one hand and affordable premiums on the other.

The Dems have really acted like a bunch of sissies all along. Fragmented, hesitant, fretful to put it mildly. Above all they lack the conviction of their beliefs that the Republicans display.

Olympia Snowe: Tail Wagging the Dog

It is disconcerting and embarrassing watching the hoops being jumped by the Democrats as they try to woo their token Republican Olympia Snowe in regards to Health Care Reform. I don't pretend to know all the ins and outs of what is being proposed regarding Health Care Reform legislation but there is one thing I am certain of is that the little guy will lose out to the Insurance Companies big time. What is being gained in all this effort? About 20 million out of 45 million uninsured will be added to the coverage. Already the Insurance Companies are threatening their brand of payback if legislation of any sort is passed. Payback being much higher premiums of course. On top of all this is legislation may get passed but like Immigration legislation implementation of it will dated well in the future allowing the public time to forget promises made and allow sabotage during the interim by legislators who voted against it. Real intent for reform would be immediate implementation and a strong initial stance.

Republicans: Circling the Wagons

After having watched many interviews with Republican legislators I can only come to one conclusion concerning their motivations about Health Care. They don't want any part of it, particularly any Health Care plan that included a "Public Option". So far they are dangling a carrot in front of the Democrats all the while steering them to a dead end. Any promise will do--one of their favorites is that Insurance Companies are all set to do away with refusing insurance to those having prior health issues, or refusing insurance to those who get sick while under their insurance plan, raising premiums, refusing some procedures, delaying decisions, and other complaints. Delay, make any promise, confuse the issue, that's their answer to health care.

Our representatives main concerns are protecting Corporations and getting reelected--their "dance" obviously reflects this. Outright lies and clever propaganda is what the public receives as answers to their questions. Legislators and partisan propagandists make unsubstantiated claims which no one can refute--at least in the time limits usually allowed. Unfortunately logic and common sense suffer acutely in the public arena.

It will be interesting to see what unravels out of this mess.

The Case For Universal Healthcare

July 4, 1776 . . . .We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Life--not health insurance for profit--is an "unalienable Right". By not providing, or in some manner making available, health care the Government is depriving People of their Rights as stated in the Declaration of Independence. The Government has interceded on the behalf of organizations whose bottom line is Profit, at the expense of the People. Equal rights for Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness are unalienable Rights, of which Life is the most fundamental and tangible, for without Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness cannot be pursued and achieved.
There is nothing explicit in the Declaration and the Bill of Rights guaranteeing anyone profit. Health care however does promote Life and everyone has a Right to Live. Pursuing profit over Life is contrary to our basic beliefs, despite what the proponents of profit deriving health insurance promote. Universal Health care is not Socialized Medicine but what is guaranteed in our own Declaration of Independence. It is our Patriotic Duty to provide Health Care to our populace. The only question is how much health care will provide that Right to Life?

The Question of Universal Healthcare

There is a lot of fuzzy thinking regarding "Universal Health Care"; which is a health care program run, regulated, financed by the government; similar to Medicare--I presume anyway.
The basic premise for Universal Health Care is that every individual has a fundamental "right" to health and well-being. A person might argue, since our welfare is protected by "the State"--from criminals, foreign enemies, agents, and others to the tune of trillions of dollars-- that our welfare should be protected in the health realm as well.
President Bush, from one side of his mouth, states that it is his duty to protect Americans from terrorists, and out of the other side of his mouth, states that "Free Enterprise" is more important than American's health. Trillions of dollars are being spent to protect Americans from "potential" enemies; all the while Americans are dying and suffering in a real immediate fact everyday unable to obtain health care, which would possibly save their lives and relieve suffering.
On top of it all is the inflation costs of health care increases at a much higher rate than the rest of the economy and nothing is being done about it. This increase is making it more difficult for individuals and employers to continue health insurance. With more and more companies moving offshore more and more workers are losing jobs and health insurance.
So, a basic fundamental "need" is not being addressed like other "threats" because economic philosophy says to do so would "socialize" a capitalistic society.
The whole argument is contradictory since the "welfare" of Americans demands equal protection: just as much as police, military, etc. services provide "protection". Cancer, pneumonia, broken bones, etc. are as much a "threat" to Americans as terrorism nd war is.
